Britain will help Ukraine develop capabilities to destroy Russian missiles before they are launched, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said during a visit to Kyiv on Monday.

“That means not just air defence, but stopping Russia launching their missiles in the first place with sanctions that cut off their military supply chains; with support to support to destroy missiles before they are launched against Ukrainian cities; and with help for Ukraine to develop new technologies and deepen our industrial cooperation,” Burnham said in a speech outside St Sofia Cathedral marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.

Burnham also pledged additional British support to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences ahead of the winter.
