UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has called for closer ties between Britain and the European Union, particularly in defence and security, during talks with European Council President António Costa.

The discussion took place while Burnham was travelling to Kyiv, according to European Pravda.

The two officials discussed relations between London and the EU and agreed on the need to further strengthen cooperation. Burnham highlighted the importance of closer coordination in defence and security.

He said the UK-EU summit scheduled for the end of the year would provide an opportunity to continue efforts to deepen cooperation between Britain and the bloc.
