Azerbaijan’s State Border Service has prevented attempts to smuggle more than 55 kilograms of narcotic substances and 1,000 Methadone M-40 psychotropic tablets into the country from Iran.


The incidents were uncovered by the Goradiz border guard detachment during operations on August 21 and 22, the State Border Service told Caliber.Az.



On August 21, an Azerbaijani citizen was detained while allegedly attempting to smuggle 26 kilograms and 5 grams of narcotic substances and 1,000 Methadone M-40 tablets into Azerbaijan.


The following day, three more Azerbaijani nationals were detained while allegedly attempting to smuggle an additional 29 kilograms and 100 grams of narcotic substances into the country.


Operational and investigative measures are continuing in connection with the incidents.
