BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. Ashgabat will host
the 111th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of
Independent States (CIS) on September 11, 2026.
This was reported by the press service of the Turkmen
government.
The event will be held in accordance with the Action Plan for
the implementation of Turkmenistan's chairmanship concept in the
CIS and the decision of the Economic Council dated June 26.
The draft agenda includes 28 issues, some of which will
subsequently be submitted to the CIS Council of Heads of Government
for consideration. Participants will review strategic plans for
transport security development, industrial cooperation concepts in
high-tech sectors, as well as several financial and organizational
initiatives.
In preparation for the meeting, a delegation from the CIS
Executive Committee, led by Deputy Secretary-General Ilkhom
Nematov, visited Ashgabat. During meetings with the leadership of
the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, the parties
reviewed the readiness of regulatory documents, the program of
events, and organizational arrangements. The delegation also
inspected the venues selected for the event, resulting in the
signing of a protocol on further coordination.
"The meeting of the Economic Council in Turkmenistan will boost
the development of partnership relations between the CIS countries
and allow decisions to be made on key issues of regional
interaction," representatives of the delegation and the ministry
noted following the talks.
The CIS Economic Council is a permanent body responsible for
coordinating cooperation among CIS countries in the economic
sphere. It brings together representatives of the member states to
discuss the implementation of agreements and programs aimed at
developing trade, investment, transport, industry, finance and
other areas of economic interaction. The council was established in
2000 as part of efforts to strengthen the institutional framework
for economic cooperation within the CIS.
The council holds regular meetings, at which participants
consider draft agreements and joint programs, exchange views on
economic cooperation and prepare issues for consideration by the
CIS Council of Heads of Government. Its agenda traditionally covers
practical areas of regional cooperation, including transport and
logistics, industrial cooperation, energy, finance, trade and
investment.
