BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 15. Iran is
considering the possibility of exporting additional petroleum
products it produces to Tajikistan, Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen
Paknejad said.
According to Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum, Paknejad made the
remarks in Tehran following talks with Tajik Minister of Energy and
Water Resources Daler Juma and Minister of Transport Azim
Ibrahim.
“The main part of the discussions between Iran and Tajikistan
focused on the possibility of exporting petroleum products. Through
this, efforts are being made to help address some of the challenges
faced by our friendly and brotherly Tajikistan in recent days.
Various mechanisms for this cooperation have been considered.
Ultimately, it was decided to establish a working group to study
the issues and conduct expert discussions,” Paknejad said.
The Iranian minister noted that Iran and Tajikistan are taking
steps to establish a long-term contractual framework to ensure the
supply of crude oil and fuel required by Tajikistan’s oil
refinery.
Paknejad said that the meeting resulted in a common
understanding on the issue. He added that Tajikistan’s Minister of
Energy and Water Resources has visited Tehran over the past two
years, and during each visit the two sides have made significant
progress in this area. A large part of bilateral cooperation is
currently being implemented, he added.
“Regarding the potential volume of exchanges between the two
countries, the volume will depend on logistics issues, and steps
will be taken in line with the available potential,” he said.
Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma
and Minister of Transport Azim Ibrahim arrived in Tehran today at
the head of a high-level delegation.
