BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 15. The exchange of
oil products between Iran and Tajikistan could increase following
talks with the Iranian side and the launch of a joint working
group.
According to Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum, Tajikistan’s Minister
of Transport Azim Ibrohim made the remarks.
“Currently, the exchange of oil products between Iran and
Tajikistan stands at around 800,000 tons per year. However,
following today’s talks and the launch of the joint working group,
this volume could increase several-fold,” he said.
Ibrohim said the two sides will examine ways to transport oil
products. He noted that the existing transportation capacity is
sufficient to handle the current volume, but additional measures
will be needed to develop transportation and logistics capacity in
line with plans to increase the volume.
The Tajik minister said talks would be held with Tajikistan’s
neighboring countries to ensure the necessary infrastructure. He
expressed hope that the growing import of crude oil and oil
products into Iran would help create the necessary conditions for
transporting these cargoes.
Meanwhile, Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler
Juma said a high-level Tajik delegation visiting Iran had held a
meeting with Iranian Minister of Petroleum Mohsen Paknejad.
During the visit, the sides discussed ways to increase oil
product imports from Iran to Tajikistan. They also examined in
detail issues related to oil product imports, including the types
of products and the volumes required.
“The prospects for economic cooperation between the two
countries are clear. Import and trade volumes depend on logistics
issues. However, increasing trade in the energy sector could have a
positive impact on economic relations between Iran and Tajikistan,”
he said.
