BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. Kyrgyzstan’s
Energy Ministry and China Southern Power Grid International have
signed a memorandum to explore joint electricity projects and
investment cooperation.
This was announced in a report published by the press service of
Kyrgyzstan’s Energy Ministry, following a meeting between Minister
Altynbek Rysbekov and Zhang Heng, President of China Southern Power
Grid International (HK) Co., Ltd.
According to the report, the sides discussed cooperation in the
electricity sector, including modernization of energy
infrastructure, development of power grids, digital technologies
and energy storage systems.
The memorandum provides for the establishment of a Joint Working
Group to coordinate cooperation and identify projects for further
technical and investment assessment.
The cooperation will focus on developing Kyrgyzstan’s energy
infrastructure and implementing joint projects in the electricity
sector, according to the ministry.
“The cooperation will be aimed at developing the energy
infrastructure of the Kyrgyz Republic and implementing joint
projects in the electricity sector,” the ministry said.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan is expanding its electricity
infrastructure as power demand grows alongside economic activity
and industrial development. The country is therefore placing
greater emphasis on increasing generation capacity, modernizing
power networks and introducing digital technologies and energy
storage solutions.
Hydropower remains the backbone of the electricity system in
Kyrgyzstan, while the government is also seeking to diversify
generation through new renewable energy projects and attract
investment and technology from international partners. This
approach creates demand for cooperation with major energy companies
and supports Bishkek’s efforts to develop a more modern and
flexible electricity system.
