BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. Turkmenistan
presented its transit and logistics potential and proposed measures
to increase trade and expand exports at a meeting of ECO trade
chambers.
This was reflected in a statement issued by the press service of
the Turkmen government on August 14.
According to the information, the meeting was held online with
the participation of heads and representatives of chambers of
commerce and industry from ECO member states.
“Particular attention was paid to the organization of regular
joint exhibitions and business forums to increase the investment
attractiveness of the region,” the press service said.
Moreover, Turkmenistan reaffirmed its commitment to further
deepening long-term and sustainable cooperation within the ECO
framework.
For reference, the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is a
regional intergovernmental organization focused on economic
integration among 10 member states: Türkiye, Iran, Pakistan,
Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan,
Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. It grew out of the Regional
Cooperation for Development, established by Iran, Pakistan and
Türkiye in 1964, and adopted its current name in 1985. Azerbaijan,
Turkmenistan and the Central Asian states joined in 1992.
For Turkmenistan, the organization is particularly relevant to
trade, transit and connectivity, given the country's position
between Central Asia, Iran and the Caspian Sea. ECO identifies
transport and communications, trade and investment, and energy and
environmental cooperation among its main areas of activity. Its
regional connectivity agenda has included the
Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran corridor, as well as the development
of infrastructure linked to Turkmenbashi and other regional
ports.
