BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. One day after the
visit of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to
the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, a decree was signed allocating 258 million manat ($151.8
million) to accelerate the region’s socioeconomic development.
This decision marks another important step in the consistent
state policy aimed at the development of Nakhchivan. The allocated
funds will be used to finance projects implemented under existing
state programs, including the State Program for the Socio-Economic
Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for
2023–2027.
The new financial package will ensure the modernization of
Nakhchivan’s infrastructure, boost economic activity, improve the
social well-being of the population, and further strengthen the
autonomous republic’s contribution to the country’s overall
development.
Energy and Infrastructure Projects
Using the allocated funds, plans are in place to expand the use
of alternative and renewable energy sources in 2026–2027.
The continued construction of a 15.6-MW hydroelectric power
plant will increase Nakhchivan’s energy capacity and make a
significant contribution to the implementation of Azerbaijan’s
green energy policy.
In addition, 420 kilometers of urban, rural, and
inter-settlement roads will undergo major repairs. The project will
cover 26 settlements and benefit 156,300 people.
The modernization of the intercity public transportation fleet
will improve the quality and safety of passenger service.
Support for Education and Social Services
The new investments also include the development of educational
infrastructure. Plans are in place to build a 1,000-bed student
dormitory at Nakhchivan State University and five new kindergartens
with a total capacity of 640 children.
In addition, major repairs will be carried out on the facades
and interiors of 161 residential buildings, and boiler rooms will
be renovated.
A Strategic Vision for Nakhchivan’s
Development
This decree, signed by President Ilham Aliyev, is yet another
tangible indicator of state policy aimed at the balanced
development of the regions.
