BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 11. Iran plans to
protect and boost production from the South Pars gas field (North
Dome in Qatar), a joint gas field with Qatar.


This was announced by the Iranian Pars Oil and Gas Company,
citing remarks of the company's official, Ashkan Asadi
Eskandar.


"A geomechanical three-dimensional (3D) and four-dimensional
(4D) research plan is being implemented in a part of the South Pars
gas field. The results of these studies will play an effective role
in managing the technical process of the reservoir, assessing the
causes of pressure reduction in the reservoir, evaluating the
supply on and inside the well, as well as establishing future
production and development programs of the field," he noted.


Asadi said that this plan is considered one of the main studies
in the management of the South Pars field reservoir. In the
direction of the implementation of this plan, a geomechanical
three-dimensional and four-dimensional model was created by Iranian
specialists over a 480 square kilometer area of ​​the field for 13
months, and its results will be presented within the framework of
specialized analyzes and technical reports.


The official explained that integrated reservoir management is
one of the field's operational priorities. Accordingly, the plan
was developed to predict reservoir processes in the South Pars
field and improve quality control.







Asadi added that the results of the study create conditions for
a new stage of development in order to protect production from
wells. At the same time, the production function of the downhole
and on-well equipment, as well as the identification of possible
damage to the wells, will be evaluated.


The official further said that the study plan also creates
conditions for evaluating the development of geomechanical models
of the entire territory of the South Pars gas field on the Iranian
side. Predicting the amount and distribution of subsidence in the
study area, assessing the possibility of generalizing this model to
the entire area, and improving technical knowledge related to
managing the mechanical behavior of the reservoir during field
development and abandonment are among the most important expected
achievements of this project.


The South Pars gas field, known as the North Dome field in
Qatar, is a shared gas reservoir between Iran and Qatar. The field
is estimated to contain 51 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, of
which 36 trillion cubic meters are considered recoverable. Iran's
share of the field is estimated at 14 trillion cubic meters of
natural gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.


Iran's section of South Pars consists of 24 development phases.
The country began production from the field in 2002 and is
currently producing a combined 700 million cubic meters of natural
gas per day from these phases. Iran is estimated to have invested
$90 billion in developing the field. Approximately 33% of the
field's recoverable gas reserves are reported to belong to Iran.
While the phases on Iran's side have been developed by Iranian
companies, the Qatari side has been developed primarily by foreign
companies.
