BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10. The Baku
Initiative Group (BIG) has expressed solidarity with the Sikh
community protesting in India.
This was reported on BIG’s official page on the social media
platform “X.”
According to the report, leaders and representatives of the Sikh
community held a protest in front of the Panjokhra Sahib Police
Station in Ambala and called on the Indian government to “take
immediate and impartial action against anti-Khalistan activists”
(Khalistan is a movement to establish an independent Sikh state
within the Indian state of Punjab).
“BIG expresses solidarity with the Sikh community and calls on
the Indian government to ensure equal protection for all under the
law, hold the perpetrators accountable, ensure due process, and
protect Sikh religious sites and community representatives,” the
statement reads.
On August 7, a clash broke out in the city of Ambala in the
Indian state of Haryana between Sikhs and activists opposing the
movement to establish an independent state of Khalistan. Two police
officers were injured during the incident. The police detained two
young Sikhs, after which community representatives staged a protest
in front of the police station, demanding their release.
