BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 8. Armenia was the
first country to benefit from the lifting of the blockade and
gained a railway connection with the outside world through the
territory of Azerbaijan.
This was announced by the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament,
Ruben Rubinyan, in a video message on Facebook on the occasion of
the first anniversary of the signing of the Washington
Declaration.
According to him, when the Declaration of Peace was signed in
Washington a year ago, skeptics did not believe that it would bring
real peace. "They didn't believe that this would end the constant
shootings and casualties on the border. They didn't believe that we
would leave the blockade. They openly said that by doing this, we
were giving way to the other side to advance, but in return we were
getting nothing and were left in a blockade. What happened over the
next year showed the opposite," the speaker said.
Rubinyan stressed that Armenia not only didn't remain in the
blockade, but was also the first country to benefit from the
lifting of the blockade and gained a railway connection with the
outside world through the territory of Azerbaijan.
He noted that the same process is taking place in Türkiye, which
has recently lifted restrictions on Armenia's use of its railway
network. "This is real peace, and we should be happy about it. We
deserve peace," Rubinyan added.
