BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 7. Turkmenistan and
Thailand have identified trade, investment, energy, transport and
logistics as priority areas for expanding bilateral
cooperation.
This was reflected in a statement published by the press service
of the Turkmen government following a meeting between Ambassador
Mukhmetnyaz Mashalov and Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of a
department at Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on August 7
in Bangkok.
The diplomats also agreed on a set of measures to intensify
high-level contacts and decided to hold the first inter-ministerial
political consultations between the two countries in 2027.
According to the statement, the consultations will coincide with
the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations
between Turkmenistan and Thailand.
Education and tourism were also identified among the priority
areas of the bilateral partnership.
The sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening
cooperation and supporting each other's initiatives within the
United Nations and other international organizations.
Turkmenistan and Thailand established diplomatic relations in
1992, with bilateral contacts covering political dialogue, trade,
investment, energy, transport, education and tourism. In recent
years, the countries have sought to expand economic and business
ties, including through contacts between government agencies and
private-sector representatives. Thailand has also shown interest in
strengthening cooperation with Turkmenistan in areas such as
tourism and trade, providing a basis for broader economic
engagement.
The sides have increasingly explored ways to give bilateral
relations a more regular institutional framework. Recent diplomatic
contacts have included discussions on trade, tourism,
private-sector engagement and the possible development of formal
mechanisms for intergovernmental cooperation and political
dialogue.
