BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 6. Kyrgyzstan and
Russia discussed expanding cooperation in agriculture, with a focus
on investment, processing industries and agricultural trade.
This was reflected in a press release published by Kyrgyzstan's
Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry on
August 6 following a panel session at the eighth Kyrgyz-Russian
Economic Forum.
According to the ministry, the discussion brought together
representatives of government agencies, businesses, industry
organizations and research institutions from both countries.
The participants reviewed prospects for expanding trade and
economic cooperation, attracting investment, developing food
processing industries, improving logistics infrastructure,
introducing modern agricultural technologies, and strengthening
cooperation in veterinary and phytosanitary control.
"Such partnership contributes to strengthening food security,
developing mutual trade in agricultural products, introducing
modern technologies and implementing joint investment projects,"
Deputy Minister Asylbek Satyvaldiev said.
The ministry also noted that Kyrgyzstan is interested in
developing joint production facilities, expanding industrial
cooperation, increasing the output of value-added agricultural
products and implementing mutually beneficial investment
projects.
The sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue strengthening
bilateral partnership and support joint initiatives aimed at the
sustainable development of the agro-industrial sector and food
security.
Meanwhile, agriculture remains one of the key sectors of
Kyrgyzstan's economy, accounting for a significant share of
employment and export earnings. The country is a major regional
producer of beans, fruit, vegetables, dairy products and honey,
while Russia continues to be the principal destination for many
Kyrgyz agricultural exports, including fruit, berries and processed
food products. Membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has
facilitated market access by harmonizing veterinary and
phytosanitary requirements and reducing trade barriers for
agricultural goods.
Agricultural cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Russia has
expanded beyond trade to include investment, seed production,
breeding, irrigation, agricultural machinery and food processing.
In 2025, bilateral trade in agricultural products increased by 25%,
while both countries identified further opportunities to expand
supplies of fertilizers, veterinary products and agro-industrial
technologies. Officials have also been working to strengthen
production cooperation and improve food security through joint
projects and closer coordination within the EAEU framework.
