BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 6. Kyrgyz President
Sadyr Japarov held talks with the heads of Russia's regions,
focusing on expanding interregional economic cooperation and
launching new joint investment projects.
This was reflected in a statement published by the Kyrgyz
presidential press service on August 6.
"Joint production facilities in industry, pharmaceuticals and
agricultural processing represent promising areas of cooperation,"
Japarov said during the meeting in Cholpon-Ata.
According to the statement, the parties discussed strengthening
interregional ties, expanding trade and economic relations, and
implementing joint projects between Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
Japarov said the eighth Kyrgyz-Russian Economic Forum and the
twelfth Kyrgyz-Russian Interregional Conference would serve as an
effective mechanism for generating new initiatives and giving fresh
impetus to bilateral partnership.
The president also invited Russian partners to participate in
innovative projects through Kyrgyzstan's High Technology Park and
the Tamchy Special Financial Investment Territory.
The Russian governors highlighted the practical implementation
of joint projects in the agro-industrial sector, information
technology and tourism. They also stressed that stronger direct
business ties between regional companies would help maintain trade
growth and create a solid foundation for long-term economic
cooperation, the report added.
Meanwhile, interregional cooperation has become one of the main
drivers of economic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Russia,
complementing bilateral agreements at the national level. Through
annual interregional conferences and business forums, Russian
regions have expanded direct partnerships with Kyrgyz provinces in
manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, education and tourism. These
mechanisms have also facilitated investment projects and
business-to-business cooperation beyond traditional government
channels.
Russia remains Kyrgyzstan's largest trading partner and one of
its leading sources of foreign direct investment. Both countries
are members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), where
coordinated policies on trade, customs and transport continue to
support growing economic integration. The Kyrgyz-Russian
Interregional Conference, first launched in 2012, has evolved into
a key platform for identifying new investment opportunities and
strengthening commercial ties between regional authorities and
businesses from both countries.
