BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 6. Kazakhstan’s
Ambassador to North Macedonia Satybaldy Burshakov held a meeting
with Ohrid Mayor Kiril Pecakov, during which the newly appointed
Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Ohrid was presented and received
his consular patent.


According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan,
during the meeting, Burshakov introduced Giorgi Vojnovik as
Kazakhstan’s new Honorary Consul in Ohrid and officially handed him
the consular document.


"The parties discussed the current state and prospects for
developing Kazakh-Macedonian cooperation, including expanding
trade, economic, investment, and cultural ties. Burshakov also
briefed the Mayor on key areas of Kazakhstan's political and
socioeconomic development," the statement of Kazakh MFA says.


Pecakov presented information about the municipality’s
activities, the region’s economic and tourism potential, as well as
cultural events held in Ohrid.







The sides expressed confidence that the launch of the Honorary
Consul’s activities in Ohrid will contribute to strengthening
bilateral cooperation, expanding business contacts, promoting
cultural exchanges and developing tourism links between Kazakhstan
and North Macedonia.


Ohrid is one of North Macedonia’s major tourism and cultural
centers. The city and the wider Ohrid region are included on the
UNESCO World Heritage List and host international cultural events
annually.


Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and North
Macedonia were established in 1995, and the two countries marked
their 30th anniversary in 2025 with the official opening of
Kazakhstan’s embassy in Skopje. In recent years the partnership has
gained new momentum through high-level contacts, including the 2025
visits to Astana by President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and
Foreign Minister Timčo Mucunski, the signing of a 2025–2027
inter-ministerial cooperation programme, and the creation of a
bilateral Business Council. Cooperation focuses on expanding trade
and investment (with bilateral turnover rising notably in 2024),
agriculture, transport and logistics, tourism and cultural
exchanges, while both sides continue to explore practical steps
such as a possible visa-free regime and greater
business-to-business engagement.
