BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 6. Turkmenistan has
obtained a new commercial natural gas flow from its Chemmerli gas
field in the Central Karakum region.


This was reflected in a press release issued by the press
service of the Turkmen government.


According to the press service, the gas inflow was obtained
during testing of appraisal and production well No. 265, drilled by
the Türkmengazburawlaýyş drilling department for the
Döwletabatgazçykaryş production unit of the State Concern
Turkmengaz.


"During testing at the 1,114-1,110 meter interval, a commercial
natural gas flow of more than 150,000-200,000 cubic meters per day
was obtained," the press service said.


The well was drilled to a planned depth of 1,200 meters as part
of the ongoing development of the Chemmerli gas field in the
Central Karakum gas-bearing region, the report noted.


According to the government, the discovery is expected to
support further development of Turkmenistan's natural gas
production base and strengthen the country's export potential by
bringing additional gas volumes into commercial production.







At the same time, expanding gas production has brought greater
attention to the environmental dimension of Turkmenistan's energy
sector. Alongside efforts to increase output and exports, the
country has intensified engagement with international partners on
methane emissions reduction, as governments and financial
institutions increasingly link long-term energy cooperation with
climate commitments and emissions performance.


In this regard, the European Commission told Trend in a n exclusive
interview that regional cooperation remains the most effective way
to address environmental challenges in Central Asia and encouraged
Turkmenistan to continue engaging in multilateral environmental
initiatives.


"Turkmenistan is an important partner for the EU in global
Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), such as the
Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention to Combat
Desertification, and the Convention on International Trade in
Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)," a European
Commission representative said.


According to the official, the EU also encourages Turkmenistan
to participate actively in the environmental conventions of the
United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), while policy
dialogue continues under the EU for a Green Turkmenistan: Policy
Dialogue and Climate Action 2024-2029 programme and the regional
Team Europe Initiative on Water, Energy and Climate.


The Commission added that climate change is intensifying
environmental pressures across the region, including in the Caspian
Sea basin, and reaffirmed its expectation that partners, including
Turkmenistan, will continue implementing measures that both reduce
emissions and strengthen resilience under the Paris Agreement.
