Moldova's National Commission for Emergency Situations has introduced restrictions on the use of water for non-essential purposes, including recreational activities, due to drought and low water levels across the region, the government's press service said.
In particular, the measures restrict the use of drinking water and water from surface sources for non-essential purposes, such as street cleaning and filling swimming pools, Caliber.Az reports per Moldovan media.
Water will be prioritised for essential public needs, including hospitals, schools and other critical services. The commission also decided to reduce water consumption by at least 20% for industrial enterprises whose operations are not considered vital to food production, the healthcare sector or public health.
On July 28, the Moldovan government declared a 30-day state of heightened alert in the energy and hydrological sectors in response to risks associated with low water levels in the Dniester River.
