Interior ministers from the European Union's 27 member states will hold an emergency meeting on August 4 to discuss the migration crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, POLITICO reports, citing sources.
During the meeting, ministers are expected to express solidarity with Madrid and discuss measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
According to one official, Spain will criticise some governments for turning the crisis into an attack on Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez instead of supporting a country facing an emergency.
Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska will also present Madrid's assessment of the events and argue for a coordinated European response to the crisis.
On July 30, tens of thousands of migrants breached Spain's border in the autonomous city of Ceuta, arriving by both land and sea.
