BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 3. Turkmenistan and
Thailand discussed expanding cooperation in trade, logistics and
investment.


This was reflected in a statement published by Turkmenistan's
Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 3 following the meeting
between Turkmen Ambassador to Malaysia Muhammetnyyaz Mashalov and
Thai Foreign Ministry official Urasa Mongkolnavin.


According to the statement, the meeting took place during
Mashalov's working visit to Thailand. The sides discussed the
development of political and diplomatic relations, the organization
of high-level visits and political consultations.


"The sides confirmed their readiness to further strengthen
cooperation in trade and economic, transport and logistics,
investment, cultural, educational and tourism spheres," the
statement said.







According to the ministry, the participants also reaffirmed
their commitment to continued cooperation within the United Nations
and other international organizations.


Meanwhile, Thailand has emerged as one of Turkmenistan's
priority partners in Southeast Asia as Ashgabat seeks to diversify
its economic ties beyond its traditional markets. Bilateral
contacts intensified in early 2026 following the appointment of
Turkmenistan's first resident ambassador accredited to Thailand
from Kuala Lumpur. Since then, the sides have discussed expanding
cooperation in trade, tourism, business promotion and migration,
while also exploring the establishment of a bilateral
intergovernmental cooperation mechanism and regular political
consultations.


Economic diplomacy has become an increasingly important pillar
of the relationship. In February, representatives of the Turkmen
Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Thai Chamber of Commerce
discussed measures to promote business links and facilitate market
access for exporters from both countries. Thailand, the
second-largest economy in Southeast Asia and a major regional
logistics hub, is viewed by Turkmenistan as a potential gateway to
ASEAN markets, while Bangkok has expressed interest in
strengthening cooperation in trade, tourism and private sector
engagement ahead of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations
between the two countries in 2027.
