BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 3. Iran welcomes the
efforts of regional countries aimed at preventing tensions in the
region, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei
said.
He made the remarks during a press conference in Tehran on
August 3.
“All regional countries understand that they have a stake in the
future of the region and in developments that may occur. This is a
positive factor. The U.S. war against Iran is not directed solely
against one country; it is against the entire region and the
security of all regional countries,” Baghaei said.
He stated that over the past five months, the U.S. military
presence in the region and the use of the territory and
capabilities of countries located around the Persian Gulf have led
to increased instability for all countries in the region.
“Experience has shown Iran that nothing except Iran’s power and
deterrence capabilities can prevent the escalation of attacks by
the opposing side against Iran,” Baghaei said.
Meanwhile, the latest escalation in U.S.-Iranian relations began
on July 8. On that day, for the first time since the signing of the
memorandum between Washington and Tehran, the U.S. military carried
out several waves of strikes on Iranian territory, claiming that
this was in response to an attack on a merchant ship in the Strait
of Hormuz. On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced
the end of the ceasefire with Iran. In response, Tehran began
attacking U.S. facilities in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the
UAE, and Oman. The Iranian side currently states that the Strait of
Hormuz has been closed.
