BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 3. Iran has launched a
digitalization plan for the terminals at Shahid Rajaee Port in the
southern province of Hormozgan.
The announcement was made by Hamidreza Mohammad Hosseini Takhti,
head of the Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Administration, during a
meeting of the working group overseeing the digitalization project,
according to the administration.
The digitalization plan for Shahid Rajaee Port's terminals has
been launched at the port with an $800,000 investment from the
private sector, he said.
According to the official, the project aims to enhance security
at the port, speed up cargo loading and unloading operations, and
improve monitoring processes.
Mohammad Hosseini Takhti said the terminals will be equipped
with a unified digital surveillance system, vehicle license plate
recognition technology at entry and exit gates, automatic container
identification systems, access control sensors, and smart
cameras.
He added that, under the program, the first phase will be
implemented as a one-month pilot project covering two gantry
cranes, two transtainers, and one entry-exit gate. After any
deficiencies are addressed and the system's performance is
validated, the technology will be rolled out across all terminal
systems.
Mohammad Hosseini Takhti said the initiative marks an important
step toward the digitalization of Shahid Rajaee Port's terminals.
In addition to improving security, the project is expected to
reduce truck waiting times, minimize human error, and enhance the
monitoring of port operations.
Shahid Rajaee Port covers an area of 2,400 hectares and has the
capacity to handle more than 100 million metric tons of cargo
annually.
