A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck off New Zealand's North Island, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) announced.
According to the agency, the epicenter was located about 190 kilometers east of the city of Tauranga, which has a population of more than 100,000. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 53 kilometers.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
