US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the relationship between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping is based on mutual respect.
In an interview with Fox News, Rubio emphasized that direct communication between the leaders of the world's two largest economies was essential, describing it as irresponsible not to maintain contact with China and reaffirming that Washington sought stability in bilateral relations.
He added that both sides recognize the need for cooperation between the United States and China in a number of areas.
