A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Vancouver Island in Canada on Saturday, August 1, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), cited by Xinhua.


The quake was recorded at 04:49 UTC, with its epicentre located at 49.62 degrees north latitude and 129.28 degrees west longitude. The earthquake originated at a depth of 10 kilometres.


There were no immediate reports of damage, casualties or any tsunami threat following the tremor.
