Iran's army said it had launched drone strikes against what it described as strategic US military facilities at Kuwait's Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base, claiming the attack was carried out in retaliation for recent US actions against Iran.
In a statement issued by its public relations office, the army said the strikes marked the 27th phase of its "Operation Thunderbolt". It said the targets included fighter aircraft shelters, satellite communications systems and equipment depots at the base.
The statement described the operation as a response to what it called recent "aggression" by the US military against Iran, including an alleged attack on a residential home on Qeshm Island.
Iran claimed Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base plays a significant role in US air and surveillance operations and serves as a key logistical hub supporting American military activities in the region.
The army also said continued sanctions, threats and military action would strengthen Iran's unity and resolve. It further claimed that ongoing large-scale operations by the Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had made it increasingly difficult and costly for US and allied forces to intercept Iranian drones and missiles, despite the use of advanced air defence systems.
The statement additionally alleged that the United States was suppressing information about damage and casualties resulting from the attacks. It did not provide evidence to support the claim.
There was no immediate comment from US or Kuwaiti authorities on the Iranian statement, and the claims could not be independently verified.
