Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that Armenia is becoming increasingly important to major global and regional powers, arguing that the country has found its place amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
Speaking after a government meeting, Pashinyan responded to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s remarks questioning who needs Armenia, saying that Yerevan had already found the answer to that question, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“Now we are showing who needs Armenia... Armenia is needed by China, the United States, the EU and Iran. And all these partners are needed by Armenia,” Pashinyan said.
The Armenian leader also discussed the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project, describing it as a major economic and infrastructure initiative that could benefit the wider region, including Armenia and Iran.
According to Pashinyan, the project could help establish railway connectivity between the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea through Azerbaijan, Iran, Armenia and Georgia.
He rejected claims that the initiative would exclude any regional country, saying TRIPP was designed as an inclusive project involving all states in the region. However, he warned that regional instability could hinder its implementation.
Addressing the possibility of Armenia mediating between Iran and the United States, Pashinyan said Yerevan should not seek an overly ambitious role in disputes between major powers.
“Armenia is a small and modest country, and we cannot make such ambitious statements and intentions. Even the idea of entering into disputes between major countries is not right,” he said.
