Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump discussed three potential scenarios for dealing with Iran during talks on July 28, Reuters reports, citing sources familiar with the discussions.
The sources said Washington is weighing three options: pursuing a negotiated agreement with Iran, maintaining economic pressure and the existing blockade, or launching a large-scale military campaign.
Netanyahu presented Trump with several alternative proposals during the meeting, although the details were not disclosed. The Israeli prime minister reportedly indicated that Israel is awaiting Washington's final decision on how to proceed.
One Israeli source described Trump as the "senior partner" in the current confrontation with Iran, while Netanyahu was characterised as the "junior partner."
The latest escalation in U.S.-Iran tensions began on July 8, when U.S. forces carried out multiple strikes on targets inside Iran in response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes marked the first U.S. military action against Iran since Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding.
Later that day, Trump announced the end of the ceasefire with Iran. In response, Tehran launched attacks on U.S. military facilities across the Middle East, including sites in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman.
