More than 1,700 French military personnel have been deployed to help combat wildfires in the country’s southwest, Delegate Minister for the Armed Forces Alice Rufo told BFMTV.
“Just over 1,700 military personnel have been deployed,” she said.
The troops are carrying out a range of tasks, including assisting with firefighting operations and conducting aerial surveillance.
Around 2,500 firefighters have also been deployed to the Gironde department to battle the blaze.
