A group of unidentified individuals attacked two bakeries in Toronto, Canada, belonging to a Jewish-owned local chain, CNN reports, citing city police.
According to law enforcement, one of the bakeries was targeted with a firearm, while the walls of the second establishment were damaged with blunt objects.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident as a hate-motivated crime.
The damage to the two bakeries comes nearly a month after a deadly shooting in Montreal intensified concerns over the safety of Jewish communities across Canada.
In the incident last month, a gunman whose writings were described by investigators as promoting antisemitic, misogynistic and anti-capitalist violence opened fire in Montreal, killing two people — a police officer and an Israeli citizen who was identified as a beloved member of the city’s Jewish community. The attacker was killed following a shootout with police.
Earlier in June, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney acknowledged during a speech at a Toronto synagogue that the country was “failing” Jewish Canadians and pledged to allocate tens of millions of dollars toward enhancing security at places of worship.
