Several Israeli municipalities, including Ramat Gan, Eilat and Karmiel, have opened public bomb shelters as a precaution after local authorities assessed that the risk of Iranian missile fire had increased, although Israel's Home Front Command has issued no new public warning.
According to Israeli media, the move comes amid heightened regional tensions following an escalation in the U.S. military campaign against Iran, with Israeli officials assessing that Tehran could retaliate directly against Israel if the conflict widens.
Ramat Gan Mayor Carmel Shama-Hacohen said the decision followed a municipal security assessment.
He stressed the measure was precautionary.
Eilat also opened all public shelters despite no change in national guidance, while Karmiel said it had taken the same step as a precaution.
Mayor Moshe Kuninski said:
The Health Ministry said it had reviewed emergency preparedness with hospitals and health funds. No special instructions have been issued for the public.
