Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it carried out a series of missile strikes targeting U.S. assets in the region, including a military base in Jordan and infrastructure in Bahrain, according to state media reports.
The IRGC said a missile strike hit a U.S. military base in Jordan, claiming that a missile defence radar system and a U.S. F-15 fighter jet inside a hangar were “destroyed.” The claims, reported by IRIB, could not be independently verified.
In a separate statement, the IRGC said it had targeted a data centre belonging to U.S. technology company Amazon in Bahrain.
“In response to yesterday’s attack by the American army on facilities under construction and civilian infrastructure in Darkhoveyn, several cruise missiles struck the infrastructure of a data centre belonging to the American company Amazon in Bahrain and destroyed it,” the IRGC said.
The strikes were described by Iran as retaliation for what it said was a U.S. attack on the Darkhoveyn nuclear power plant project in southwestern Iran. On July 19, the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) said the under-construction facility had been hit by U.S. forces.
Iranian officials have also said that U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain were targeted overnight, though no independent confirmation has been provided.
