A police officer was injured, and at least four people were arrested following unrest on Edgware Road in London after France's 2-0 victory over Morocco in the World Cup quarter-final on July 10.
Videos circulating on social media appeared to show clashes between fans and police as hundreds of people gathered on the street after the match, in which France advanced with goals from Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, British media reports.
The Metropolitan Police said:
Police said officers were initially called after a group of people gathered on the road and blocked traffic. It said the situation escalated when bottles were thrown and fireworks were set off, prompting the deployment of additional officers.
The Metropolitan Police said it would not tolerate disorder on the streets or attacks on its officers. It added that officers would remain in the area overnight and that investigators would review CCTV footage and videos circulating on social media to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
