Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Russia’s Chechen Republic, has been nominated as the ruling United Russia party’s candidate for the upcoming regional leadership election, according to a TASS correspondent.


The decision was taken unanimously at a meeting of the party’s regional branch in Grozny, where Kadyrov was formally endorsed as the party’s nominee.


“By unanimous decision, Ramzan Akhmatovich Kadyrov — Head of the Chechen Republic, member of the Supreme Council of the United Russia party, and Hero of Russia — has been nominated,” the announcement stated.
