The Israeli military said it carried out an airstrike on what it described as a Hamas underground infrastructure site in the central Gaza Strip, alleging the group had been attempting to restore the facility in violation of the ceasefire agreement.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the strike targeted an underground site in the city of Deir al-Balah on June 28. According to the military, three targets within the underground complex were hit in an effort to dismantle the infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports.
The IDF said it had identified attempts by Hamas in recent weeks to restore the site despite the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
The military also accused Hamas of embedding its military infrastructure within civilian areas in the Gaza Strip and using civilians as human shields, an allegation Hamas has repeatedly denied.
According to the IDF, measures were taken before the strike to reduce the risk of civilian casualties, including the use of precision-guided munitions and aerial surveillance.
The military added that Israeli forces under the Southern Command remain deployed in the area in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue operations against what it described as immediate threats.
