Armenia's ruling Civil Contract party has nominated Hayk Konjoryan and Vahagn Aleksanyan for the posts of deputy speaker of the newly elected parliament, Prime Minister and party chairman Nikol Pashinyan announced.
Speaking to reporters following a meeting of the party's governing board, Pashinyan said the two candidates, along with Ruben Rubinyan, who has been nominated for the post of parliament speaker, were selected through a closed secret ballot, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
According to the prime minister, the party had initially intended to reserve one of the two deputy speaker positions allocated to the ruling party for a man and the other for a woman. However, that proposal was later abandoned in favor of an equal voting process.
"We decided that if there is to be equality, then everyone should have equal opportunities in the vote," Pashinyan said.
