Ukraine's air defences intercepted or suppressed 82 out of 108 drones launched by Russia in an overnight attack, the Ukrainian military said on Monday, adding that the assault was still ongoing.

The Air Force said Russia deployed a mix of Shahed attack drones, Gerbera and Italmas unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as Parodiya decoy drones, in the latest wave of strikes.

The attack was countered by Ukraine's Air Force, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare forces, unmanned systems units and mobile fire groups, the military said.

According to preliminary data released at 0800 local time (0500 GMT), 82 drones were either shot down or neutralised by electronic warfare over northern, southern and eastern regions of the country.

The military said 25 attack drones struck targets at 11 locations, while debris from destroyed drones fell at four separate sites. It did not immediately provide details on casualties or the extent of the damage.

"The attack is ongoing, with Russian drones still in Ukrainian airspace. Please follow safety rules," the Armed Forces said in a statement.
