The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it launched strikes against U.S. military bases in the Middle East in retaliation for recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian territory.
The IRGC warned that any further military action by the United States would be met with a stronger response, Tasnim reports.
The exchange follows U.S. airstrikes conducted a day earlier against what U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) described as Iranian drone and missile storage sites, as well as coastal radar installations. CENTCOM said the operation was carried out in response to Iran's reported attack on a commercial vessel.
U.S. President Donald Trump accused Tehran of violating a memorandum of understanding signed by the two sides in mid-June.
Iranian officials rejected the accusation, arguing that they had not breached any agreement. The IRGC said the memorandum recognised Iran's right to oversee shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and accused the United States of undermining those commitments through what it described as "various provocations."
"The U.S. attempted to violate this commitment through various provocations, to which the necessary response was given," the IRGC said.
