Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with deputy speakers of the parliaments of several African countries in Baku on the sidelines of the 20th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC).


The African parliamentary delegation is visiting Azerbaijan to attend the conference, which brings together lawmakers from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Caliber.Az reports per local media


During the meeting, the visiting officials praised Azerbaijan's organisation of the conference and highlighted key messages from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's address to participants.


Gafarova briefed the delegation on Azerbaijan's multicultural and tolerant society, as well as the country's state policy aimed at preserving and promoting Islamic values.


The discussions also focused on expanding parliamentary cooperation among OIC member states. The participants emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration between Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis and the parliaments of African countries within international parliamentary organisations, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN), and the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC).


The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
