Azerbaijan and the United Nations have discussed ways to deepen cooperation on climate action as part of a meeting between Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijan’s Presidential Representative on Climate Issues, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres in London.


Sharing details of the meeting on X, Babayev said he was pleased to meet Guterres on the sidelines of London Climate Action Week 2026, Caliber.Az reports.






The discussions focused on advancing the global climate agenda through the implementation of the outcomes of COP29 and preparations for COP31, which is set to take place in Türkiye.


The two sides also exchanged views on accelerating efforts to reduce methane emissions, expanding climate finance, and enhancing international cooperation to ensure climate commitments translate into concrete results.


" Also exchanged views on accelerating methane mitigation, scaling climate finance, and strengthening international cooperation to turn climate commitments into tangible results," Babayev wrote.
