On June 25, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov met Denis Afanasyev, deputy governor and chairman of the government of Russia’s Astrakhan region, in Baku to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation, the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers said.

The two sides reviewed the state of relations between Azerbaijan and Russian regions, with a particular focus on Astrakhan, and noted what they described as a high level of engagement across multiple sectors.

According to the government statement, officials highlighted positive dynamics in trade, economic and investment ties, as well as growing cooperation in transport, logistics, culture and education.

The meeting also noted that the Astrakhan region is involved in constructing a pre-school educational facility in Azerbaijan’s Gubadli district, which Baku regained control of in recent years.

Both sides discussed prospects for further strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, the statement added.
