Romania’s ambassador to Moscow, Cristian Istrate, has been summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told reporters.

“The Romanian ambassador has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry, where he will be informed of retaliatory measures in response to the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Constanța,” she said.

In late May, Romanian President Nicușor Dan declared Russian Consul General in Constanța Andrey Kosilin persona non grata and announced the closure of the consulate following the crash of a drone on Romanian territory.

On May 29, a drone struck the roof of a residential building in the Romanian city of Galați. The explosion sparked a fire in a 10th-floor apartment, injuring two people, Romania’s emergency response service (IGSU) reported.

Around 70 residents were evacuated from the building. Following the incident, Romania’s Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Vladimir Lipaev.
