Kazakhstan and Italy have agreed to cooperate on the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with the project set to be implemented in Kazakhstan.

The agreement was reached following the Kazakhstan–European Union roundtable and involves a partnership between Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna and Italy’s Maire S.p.A., Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.

The fuel is an environmentally friendly alternative for the aviation sector, produced from renewable sources rather than through oil refining.

The use of sustainable aviation fuel can significantly reduce the aviation industry's carbon footprint, with greenhouse gas emissions potentially falling by nearly 95%, according to the report.
