Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the state funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The invitation was extended ahead of a series of official memorial events planned in honor of Khamenei, one of the most influential figures in Iran's modern political history, according to Clash Report.

The reported invitation comes as preparations continue for the funeral ceremonies, which are expected to draw foreign dignitaries and senior officials from across the region and beyond.

As previously reported, farewell ceremonies for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei are scheduled to take place on July 4 and 5 at the Imam Khamenei Grand Mosque in Tehran. A funeral procession is planned for July 6 in Tehran, followed by commemorative events in Qom on July 7.

The burial ceremony is scheduled to take place on July 9 in Mashhad, one of Iran’s holiest cities.

Khamenei was killed on February 28 in US and Israeli strikes targeting Tehran. Iranian authorities have since announced plans for a series of national mourning and memorial events leading up to his burial.
