An eight-year-old boy who went missing after entering the Sunzha River in Ingushetia has been found dead, authorities have said, bringing an extensive search operation to an end.
The regional branch of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) confirmed that the child’s body was recovered after nearly eight days of search efforts.
A total of 546 personnel, supported by 17 units of equipment, were involved in the operation, which included rescue teams, police officers and volunteers.
According to local reports, including the Telegram channel Baza, the boy was found approximately 10 kilometres downstream from the point where he disappeared.
The incident occurred on 15 June in the town of Karabulak. The child reportedly jumped into the river after noticing that his friend had fallen into the water. The friend managed to survive after clinging to tree roots until he was rescued by local residents, while the boy was swept away by the strong current.
