President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is on a state visit to Azerbaijan, has paid tribute at the Alley of Honour in Baku, where he honoured the memory of Azerbaijan’s national leader Heydar Aliyev by laying a wreath at his grave.
He also visited the resting place of the prominent ophthalmologist and scientist Zarifa Aliyeva, where he laid flowers in tribute, underscoring the symbolic significance of the site as part of Azerbaijan’s national remembrance.
Following the commemorative visit, Berdimuhamedov proceeded to Victory Park in Baku, where he was received with a guard of honour. He laid a wreath at the Victory Monument and was briefed on the layout and significance of the 10-hectare memorial complex, which honours the Azerbaijani people’s victory in the Patriotic War and commemorates the country’s martyrs.
The park features architectural symbolism linked to the 44-day conflict, most notably the Victory Arch at its entrance, which stands 44 metres high and 22 metres wide and is supported by 44 columns, reflecting key numerical motifs associated with the war.
