Armenia’s ruling “Civil Contract” party is considering three possible candidates for the position of Speaker of the National Assembly.

The potential nominees include current Speaker Alen Simonyan, Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan, and “Civil Contract” parliamentary faction leader Hayk Konjoryan, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media

During earlier discussions in the election campaign period, Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States Lilit Makunts was considered as a possible candidate. However, she did not put herself forward and was not nominated by party colleagues.

Media outlets report that Simonyan is confident he will receive the backing of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and has conveyed this expectation to associates.

The final decision on the nomination is expected to be taken by the party’s executive committee before being submitted to the parliamentary faction for approval.
