Kazakhstan is looking forward to the opening of a Montenegrin diplomatic mission in Astana as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during talks with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, who is on an official visit to Kazakhstan.
Speaking at expanded bilateral discussions, Tokayev said relations between Kazakhstan and Montenegro have developed steadily in recent years, supported by active political dialogue and cooperation between the two countries' foreign ministries, Caliber.Az reports per Kazakh media.
“The opening of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Podgorica clearly reflects our determination to further strengthen bilateral relations,” Tokayev said.
He added that Kazakhstan would welcome Montenegro establishing a diplomatic mission in Astana in the near future, describing the move as an important step toward reinforcing the institutional framework of bilateral cooperation.
The Kazakh president also highlighted growing tourism links between the two countries, noting that an increasing number of Kazakh citizens travel to Montenegro and hold the Balkan nation in high regard as a tourist destination.
The discussions formed part of Milatović’s official visit to Kazakhstan, which is aimed at expanding political, economic, and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Kazakhstan opened its Honorary Consulate in Podgorica, Montenegro’s capital, in July 2021 as part of its efforts to deepen engagement with the country and the wider Balkan region.
