Another round of the strategic dialogue between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Latvia was held today in Riga.
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, while the Latvian side was headed by Deputy State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ivars Lasis, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.
The meeting focused in detail on the current state of political relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia. The sides emphasized that reciprocal visits at various levels, as well as regular contacts, contribute to the development of bilateral relations.
Within the framework of the dialogue, the parties discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation in the trade, economic, humanitarian, scientific, and educational spheres. They also assessed prospects for partnership in the context of strategic energy and transport projects implemented on the initiative of and involving Azerbaijan.
Particular attention was paid to the expansion of the contractual and legal framework, continued cooperation within international organizations, and mutual support for candidacies.
The sides also exchanged views on the current situation in the region, the process of normalization of Azerbaijan–Armenia relations, large-scale reconstruction and restoration efforts in territories liberated from occupation, and measures to address the landmine threat. Other issues of regional and international importance were also discussed.
As part of the visit to Riga, Fariz Rzayev held working meetings with other Latvian officials and took part in a roundtable discussion at one of the country’s research centres.
