BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 16. Tajikistan and Japan
have discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral
cooperation during talks in Tokyo.
This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of
Tajikistan in a press release published on June 16.
"On June 16, 2026, a meeting was held between the Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to
Japan, Farhod Salim, and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of
Japan, Ms. Ayano Kunimitsu," the press release says.
According to the ministry, the sides discussed the current state
and prospects of development of bilateral relations, as well as
cooperation within international and regional organizations.
To note, Tajikistan and Japan maintain cooperation within the
framework of the “Central Asia + Japan” dialogue, as well as
through Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) programs,
which have supported infrastructure, energy and water management
projects in Tajikistan for many years.
On December 20, 2025, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon
held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during his
official visit to Tokyo. The sides discussed strengthening
cooperation within the framework of the rule-based international
order, expanding practical connectivity projects between Central
Asia and the global economy with Japan’s participation, and further
developing cooperation in areas such as counterterrorism, border
security and counter-narcotics efforts.
